Homemade Gin Recipe: Lavender Chamomile & Cinnamon Rosemary Blends

Homemade Gin Recipe – Lavender-Chamomile & Cinnamon-Rosemary Blends

Hunter and I are avid gin fans and sought to make our own. Making homemade gin basically involves infusing vodka for 36 hours with juniper berries that give it the distinctive flavor of gin and any other herbs and spices to give your blend a unique taste. We received the Homemade Gin Kit as a gift, which comes with bottles, a funnel, a strainer, juniper berries and an herbal blend. Over time, we developed two recipes that produce smooth and flavorful gin that everyone will enjoy (even people who say they hate gin).

Lavender-Chamomile Blend

This gin blend is light and refreshing with floral hints. Perfect all year round. We recommend serving over ice with a slice of citrus fruit and a splash of soda water.

Ingredients

  • 750 ml mid-range vodka (i.e. Tito’s)
  • 2 Tbsps. juniper berries
  • 1 tsp. coriander powder or seeds
  • 1 tsp. cardamom powder or seeds
  • .5 tsp. fennel seed
  • .5 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cubeb berry
  • 3-5 peppercorns
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 4-6 rosehips
  • 2-4 stems of lavender or 1-2 tsp of lavender flower
  • 1 tsp of chamomile flower
  • 1 tsp rosemary leaves

Directions

  • Add the juniper berries into the vodka. Let the juniper infuse the vodka for 24 hours.
  • Next, add the remainder of your herbs and spices and let the alcohol infuse for another 12 hours.
  • Strain. Pour gin over a cheesecloth or fine strainer through a funnel into a bottle. You can also achieve the same effect with a coffee filter and Chemex before pouring into your serving bottles. Anything similar will work as well.
  • Enjoy!

Note

  • For a more flavorful gin, let the herbs and spices infuse the alcohol for a longer period of time until it’s to your liking.
  • You can also add orange, lemon, or grapefruit peels, but all pith must be removed to prevent a bitter tasting gin.

Cinnamon-Rosemary Blend

The robust flavor of cinnamon and rosemary make for the perfect gin during fall and winter. Check out our Homemade Cinnamon Gin Cocktail recipe coming soon!
